Before installing the 5 Star Hotel child theme, you'll need to prepare your WordPress environment. We'll assume at this point you've already installed WordPress in your hosting account and connected your domain.
Step 1 - Update Permalinks & General Settings
By default, WordPress does not use "Post name" for Permalinks. We recommend to change this as the first step. To do this:
Navigate to: Admin Menu > Settings > Permalinks > change to "Post name" (click the "Save Changes" button twice).
Next, we'll tackle some general WordPress settings. To do this:
Navigate to: Admin Menu > Settings > General > change "Site Title" & "Tagline", plus any other settings you wish.
Step 2 - Delete Unneeded Themes & Plugins
By default, WordPress installs unnecessary themes and plugins. While preparing your WordPress environment, it's recommended to delete these useless files. First we'll delete some themes. To do this:
Navigate to: Admin Menu > Appearance > Themes > click "Theme Details" for each theme you wish to delete (i.e. Twenty Sixteen, Twenty Seventeen) > click the red "Delete" text in the bottom-right of the screen. Keep the most recent WordPress theme installed as a fallback in case you have issues with Divi in future.
Next, we'll delete some unneeded plugins. To do this:
Navigate to: Admin Menu > Plugins > Installed Plugins > look for "Hello Dolly", "Akismet", or "Jetpack" > click the red "Delete" text for each plugin you do not plan to use. Note: Some hosts install and activate certain plugins by default. Please review your hosting environment requirements before deleting these additional plugins.
In the next article, we're going to cover installing the required Divi theme, plus optional (but recommended) plugins for 5 Star Hotel.
